Getting married at Shirley Parish Church

Weddings at St JamesWe are delighted that you are thinking of being married at Shirley Parish Church. To be married in church you do not have to be baptised or a regular attender. Though, of course, a church wedding does include that vital dimension of seeking God’s blessing not only on your wedding day but throughout your married life.

For such a special day, we offer a special place and we would love to help you plan a personal, meaningful and spiritual church wedding. We would also love to offer you a great start to your marriage beforehand through our marriage preparation evenings.

For more information contact our parish office.

Getting your child baptised at Shirley Parish Church

Infant baptsim at St JamesWe are delighted that you are considering getting your child baptised (or christened as it is sometimes called) at Shirley Parish Church. Baptism is the start of a lifelong journey following Jesus belonging to His family which is called the church. To help you prepare for this commitment we run baptism preparation sessions over four evenings each term. During these you have a great opportunity to learn and explore the Christian faith alongside other parents preparing for this step.

We also hold services of thanksgiving for those who do not wish to have their baby or child baptised as an infant, but want to thank God publicly for their child and ask His blessing on them and the family.

Both baptism and thanksgiving celebrations take place in our main 10.30 Sunday service. Please contact the parish office to start the process.

Adult baptisms

For those older children, young people and adults who were not baptised as a child and have decided they are ready to follow Jesus we are delighted to explore baptism together. These baptisms are usually done through full immersion into the water and feature in our main service or a special evening service.

Contact the curate, Andrew Hargreaves, for more details.
