Whats going on for Children?
Hello, my name is Lena Phillips and I am the Children’s Work Coordinator for St James Church. Your children are very important to us and we want to provide them with a fun, safe and relevant environment. We have a Safeguarding Policy and all leaders are CRB checked.
We have three ways that children come together to build their relationship with Jesus: Junior Church, Sunday Club and In Church. There are also Special Events going on throughout the year.
Junior Church
Junior Church provides age-related learning during church times on most Sunday mornings at Shirley Infant School and in the Parish Hall. The service starts at 10.30 in St James' Church with children leaving for their own groups after about twenty minutes.

Junior Church at the Parish Hall
Tumblers is a group for 20 months to 3+ year olds with Songtime, bible story, activity, & playtime. Parents can choose either creche or tumblers depending on what suits their child best. This group is led by Ellie Fenton.
Bubbles is a group for children aged 3-5 years at pre-school or in Reception Year. This group is led by Catherine Humphrey and Sally Ketteringham.
Please take your children to the Parish Hall when asked by the service leader (go out of the main door at the back of church, turn left along the pavement and cross the road to the hall in Colebrook Avenue,). Please settle your child into their group and ensure we have an updated registration form with all their relevant details. Please come & collect your child at 11.50am
Junior Church at Shirley Infant School
Team123 is for children in years 1, 2 & 3 led by Jane Crispin & Jo Hilliard
Team456 is for children in years 4, 5 & 6 led by Alun Newman
These children leave church from the side door at the front of church and go by a supervised walking bus to Shirley Infant School. Please ensure we have an updated registration form with all the relevant details. Please come & collect your child at 11.55am.
If you have a child at both venues please speak to one of the leaders so we can help you with collecting your children.
Sunday Club at Hollybrook Junior School
Full of games, songs, fun, activities and stories for children aged 5-11 years old on the 2nd Sunday of each month in term time, from 10.30am to 12noon. See the calendar to find out when Sunday club is on.
In Church
Each week before Junior Church our children are welcome as we enjoy activities and worship together as a whole church. On major celebrations such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Harvest all ages stay together to worship God.
Special Events
Special events are held throughout the year. These include the Family Crib Service and the Light party.
