Shirley Parish Church

We are the Church of England Parish Church in Shirley. We are a very mixed group of people of all ages, mainly living in or near Shirley. We number about 300 Adults with 140 children and young people. We share a belief that knowing Jesus is the best thing we have discovered, and we want to help other people discover him too.

How we are organised

We have one full time vicar who works with two Church Wardens and a Parochial Church Council (PCC). The PCC is elected at the Annual Parochial Meeting. The PCC also employs several members of staff who work to enable the mission of the church to be realised. Through our services and cells we try to live out God’s great commandments to love God, love each other and love our neighbours.

What we do about money

We do not take up a collection at our services because we believe that as an act of worship to God our giving should be carefully and prayerfully thought through. There is a plate at the back of the Church for visitors who want to give but we encourage members, who are able, to give by Standing Order with a Gift Aid declaration.

We encourage members to see the Biblical example of the tithe (giving 10% of earnings) as a guide for our giving. We hold to the Bible’s assertion that ‘God loves a cheerful giver.’

Annual Accounts, which are professionally audited, are presented to the Annual Church Meeting each year.
